YANKTON, SD (KELO) -- Police in Yankton say they have received multiple reports of checks being stolen out of residents' outgoing mail over the past two months.

To protect yourself, police recommend avoid mailing checks from your mailbox. Instead, use the post office lobby or make payments electronically.

Also, monitor your bank accounts for any suspicious activity and report any unauthorized transactions immediately.
