Iam calling on Gov. Tina Kotek to allow those who are willing to do so, to waive our estimated 2026 kicker refund and authorize Oregon to use those funds to pay for food assistance benefits, (“ Trump to halt food assistance to 757,000 Oregonians next month, governor says ,” Oct. 20). If a waiver is not legally doable, perhaps the state can allow volunteers to sign an agreement pledging our kicker or portion thereof. The estimated $1.4 billion kicker for next year would cover up to 10 months of benefits, based on the $142 million per month the federal government has provided. That could, I hope, bridge the gap for families in need until federal payments resume.
