A Halloween blaze kept St. Catharines firefighters busy for nearly two hours Friday night.
At about 8 p.m., St. Catharines firefighters responded to reports of smoke coming from a Geneva Street building between Church Street and Welland Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke pouring out of the second floor windows of the commercial building, from which Afghan and Turkish rugs and kitchenware are sold.
Attempts were made to find the source of the blaze inside, but smoke was too heavy, with zero visibility. No flames could be seen from the outside of the building.
Firefighters sent water directly through a window on the second floor.
There were no reported injuries from the incident.
The cause of the fire and estimated damage are still being determined.
