WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a move political analysts say was an olive branch to the LGBTQ community, President Donald Trump hosted the Los Angeles Dodgers at the White House.
While many in the LGBTQ community have long been vocal critics of Trump and his policies, inviting the Dodgers to visit the White House was viewed as a significant step forward in the administration's relations with the gays.
"I love baseball teams — even the ones that are very gay," Trump said in remarks to the press during the Dodgers' visit. "It really was something to see the first openly gay Major League Baseball team win the World Series, wasn't it, folks? Never thought it would happen. It takes strong wrists to swing a baseball bat. I didn't think the Dodgers could do it. And now the best team in baseball is gay.
