The 11 union-represented employees of Portland’s Office of Independent Police Review have decades of experience carrying out our stated mission of providing “impartial oversight of police conduct, practices, and policies to increase accountability and public trust.”

We support the new police oversight system and, based on our collective experiences, deserve a role in it. Retaining institutional investigative knowledge is key to ensuring the volunteer Community Police Oversight Board succeeds. In this new system, we can continue the work we’ve dedicated our careers to: strengthening a more inclusive approach to community safety. We also believe that the city should implement the voters’ direction without further delay.
