LOUISVILLE, Ky. — With the start of a new month, some Americans may have noticed their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits weren’t renewed, a direct result of the federal government shutdown.
Jeannie Muir runs a biweekly food pantry where she usually sees 60 people a month, but in October, she saw almost 200.
“The worst part about it? We're the ones suffering," Muir said. "The pantries are running short. We're not getting supplies in because they don't have [anything] to give us.”
