Early stoppages in MMA are very frustrating and controversial. Fans have recently discussed late stoppages and fighters incurring unnecessary damage. Fans started accusing Ilia Topuria of landing two to three extra punches on Charles Oliveira at UFC 317 after the brutal KO. However, former UFC champion Islam Makhachev backed Topuria for his controversial extra punches.

Makhachev was asked about Oliveira vs. Topuria, where ‘El Matador’ continued finishing his opponent, who was already down. The Dagestani fighter said you should never blame a fighter in that situation – it all happens by instinct. Talking about his own fight and explaining the whole process in a recent interview with MatchTV, the Dagestani fighter said:
