It’s Wednesday night and I’m searching for a story to lead the weekly bowling column. It’s something I’ve done for the past 37 seasons.

This past Wednesday, I was distracted and, ultimately, decided to leave my comfort zone.

I’ve interviewed hundreds of bowlers. I’ve been blessed to tell the stories of triumphs and, from time to time, I’ve had to report on a bowler’s passing. Those are the tough ones. Often, I type while my eyes are blurred by a tear.

This week, I want to share a personal message.

I want to tell my story because I hope in the future, you’ll be able to talk about “how it used to be.” Someday, you’ll have that moment when you smile and reflect on how much the game has impacted your life both on and off the lanes.
