DETROIT -- First things first: it’s roster housekeeping season.

With the World Series ending last night, the offseason officially begins today , and teams like the Detroit Tigers are already turning their attention to the usual early roster work.

The splashier decisions will come later this winter, but the first few weeks of every offseason are typically reserved for the routine cleanup that follows a long year.

Let’s do the math.

Once players on the 60-day injured list are reinstated, the Tigers will have 47 players on their 40-man roster.

Then remove the six players who became free agents on Sunday: second baseman Gleyber Torres; right-handed relievers Kyle Finnegan, Tommy Kahnle and Rafael Montero; and right-handed starting pitchers Chris Paddack and Alex Cobb.
