LONDON — A knife attack on a train that left 11 people injured on Saturday night was not a terrorist incident , police said, as two British nationals were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Of the nine people initially reported to have life-threatening injuries, several cases have since been downgraded and four people have been discharged. Two “remain in a life-threatening condition,” Superintendent John Loveless said in an update on Sunday morning.

“At this stage there is nothing to suggest that this is a terrorist incident,” he added, noting that both suspects, men ages 32 and 35, were born in the United Kingdom and remain in separate police stations for questioning.
