Last year, the Manchester Evening News launched a campaign in memory of Caroline Gore who was murdered at her home in Wigan in October 2023. The 44-year-old cleaner was killed by her abusive on-and-off partner a few weeks after he was released from prison.

David Liptrot, 58, was handed a suspended sentence for breaching a restraining order which prohibited him from contacting Caroline. Liptrot repeatedly ignored the court order but, despite serving time in prison for a previous breach, he was able to get away with it.

Less than four weeks after he was spared jail for breaching the order, he stabbed Caroline to death at her flat on the Scholes estate.
