The Iowa high school state cross country meet was held Oct. 31-Nov. 1 in Fort Dodge.

Iowa City Liberty (Class 4A), Iowa City West (Class 4A), Iowa City High (Class 4A), Solon (Class 3A) and Clear Creek Amana (Class 3A) took part in state competition.

Iowa City Liberty junior Keegan Decker earned the best finish from the area. In a Class 4A boys race that demanded an extra level of speed, Decker placed third with a time of 14:59.0 in the 5-kilometer race, just behind Marshalltown’s Preston Johnson (14:56.1) and Cedar Falls’ Jaden Merrick (14:54.6).

Decker came in third place for the second consecutive season. Liberty boys cross country placed 14th as a team with Decker leading the pack.
