It has long been a popular luxury destination for culture and beach enthusiasts, especially for U.S. and Canadian tourists, but the Maldives' Health Ministry has just set a new generational ban that applies to all locals and tourists in the island country. For everyone born on or after January 1, 2007, selling and using tobacco products within the Maldives is already prohibited.
The Health Ministry of the Maldives, on November 1, officially enforced the tobacco prohibition within the island country, which the ministry described as "a historic milestone in the nation's efforts to protect public health and promote a tobacco-free generation." In a press release , the Ministry of Health said that the new tobacco ban in the Maldives has been backed by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
