In yet another case of digital arrest, cyber fraudsters posing as officers of the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) allegedly held a Bhopal-based lawyer “under arrest” for three hours. The scammers falsely claimed that the lawyer, Advocate Shamsul Hasan, was under investigation in connection with the Pahalgam terror attack.
The incident took place in the Kohefiza police station area. Hasan received a phone call from a person identifying himself as an ATS official, who claimed that Hasan’s name had surfaced in the probe and warned that he and his family would be arrested if he failed to cooperate.
The caller then kept Hasan engaged on a continuous video call, instructing him to remain inside a room and effectively isolating him. Hasan complied, locking himself in the room for nearly three hours.
