CARROLLTON (KMZU) — The Missouri Department of Conservation is actively monitoring reports of sick and dead waterfowl and raptors across the state that have tested positive for bird flu.

Although the MDC maintains the risk from bird flu to the public remains low, hunters and the general public are advised to take precautions.

Hunters should dress harvested game birds in the field or in an area away from poultry and other birds, allow their hunting gear to completely dry between trips and dispose of carcasses and waste properly by sealing them in trash bags and placing them in household trash or at a permitted landfill.
