WAUSEON — A 21-year-old man from Defiance died Sunday when his car ran off the road, hit a guard rail, and ended up submerged in a creek, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

The 6:13 a.m. crash happened on County Road 25 near County Road W in Fulton County’s German Township, about six miles south of Wauseon.

Preston Boundy, 21, died at the scene after his Dodge Avenger hit a guard rail end and bridge abutment before overturning into Brush Creek, the patrol said.

While investigators don’t know if he was wearing a seatbelt, alcohol appears to be involved in the crash, Lt. Alec P. Coil said in a report.

Due to the damage of the bridge abutment, CR 25 is closed at Brush Creek.
