DALLAS — Unsurprisingly, the Hurricanes took a nose dive in the rankings following their upset loss to Southern Methodist on Saturday.

Miami, which previously ranked in the top 10 of three different polls, is now No. 18 in the AP poll, No. 18 in the USA Today coaches poll and no longer ranked in the FWAA-NFF Super 16.

The Hurricanes, who were previously ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation, will have to wait until Tuesday night to see where the College Football Playoff committee ranks them. How that committee views Miami will ultimately determine its fate at the end of the season.

This past week of games resulted in chaos for the ACC. In addition to Miami’s loss, Georgia Tech — previously undefeated and ranked eighth — also lost. Now No. 12 Virginia is the conference’s top-ranked tea
