A dad of two has died after falling while climbing Mount Whitney, one of the tallest mountains in the United States

The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Paul "PJ" Ortiz, Jr.

A dad of two died after falling from a trail while climbing one of the tallest mountains in the United States.

Rescuers “received a report of a possible fatality on Mount Whitney” just before 1 p.m. local time on Saturday, Oct. 25, according to a news release shared by California's Inyo County Search and Rescue (SAR).

Inyo SAR said the report stated that “a hiker had fallen from the trail and off a cliff” in an area known as the 99 Switchbacks off the Main Trail.

The hiker has since been identified as 29-year-old Paul
