One of President Donald Trump's former attorneys claimed on Sunday that the GOP appears to be "imploding" ahead of the midterm election because voters are getting sick of the party's "reflexive" cruelty.

Michael Cohen, the former attorney for the Trump Organization, wrote in a new Substack essay that public polling suggests voters are "disgusted" by what they're seeing on the right. He points to examples such as Trump's "roaring 20's" style Halloween Party and the lack of remorse from Republicans for people who could lose their food benefits because of the government shutdown.

"Voters are disgusted by what they’re seeing from the right; a political movement so detached from basic humanity that they think hunger, poverty, and suffering are punchlines," Cohen wrote.

He also bashed the Republican party for its "reflexive" cruelty.

"The Republican Party’s cruelty isn’t strategic anymore," Cohen wrote. "It’s reflexive. It’s who they are."

"They can’t help themselves," he continued. "When millions of Americans lose access to food, healthcare, or housing, they don’t feel shame; they feel pride. They call it 'tough love.' They sneer about 'personal responsibility.' They talk about crack pipes instead of policy, mock the hungry instead of feeding them, and think empathy is weakness."
