CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) - A portion of King Street is closed until further notice while crews prepare to demolish a building at risk of collapse.
Crews responded to a building at 1001 King Street on Friday after the apparently vacant building partially collapsed.
Following an inspection, it was determined the structure was at imminent risk of collapse.
Charleston city officials said King Street is closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic between Grove Street and Francis Street until further notice.
“This closure is necessary to protect public safety, as the building’s front wall is unstable and could potentially collapse into the street,” city officials said.
Barricades and fencing have been installed to restrict access to the area. People should avoid the surrounding area.
