A Lebanon County fire department broke into a gallop when it got a call of a horse stuck in the mud on Saturday.

The Palmyra Fire department arrived at a farm field and found a 1,200-pound horse stuck up to its stomach in a pond. The horse, named Dreamer, had escaped his stall at feeding time and wandered off, according to farm owner Jennifer Hackett’s Facebook post . He’s an older Tennessee Walker and is boarded at the farm, according to Hackett.

But how does a fire department rescue a horse?

Carefully, with heavy equipment.

Firefighters, including specialized horse experts, worked with a veterinarian to create a plan to extricate the horse.

They used equipment to free Dreamer from the mud onto a sled and then pulled him to firm ground. After escaping, Dreamer was able to stand up
