Police in Sanford are searching for whoever is responsible for a deadly shooting that happened in broad daylight Saturday afternoon.

Investigators say officers were called to the area of 14th Street and Mangoustine Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

They found 22-year-old La-Don Williams shot and critically injured. Williams later died.

A second victim went to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, according to police.

Friends say Williams was well known in the neighborhood and had a positive presence.

“Don Don is a really good dude. And it hurts me,” said Dwayne Brown, a longtime friend. “Kids aren’t seeing 22, 23, 24, 25 yet. And all this stuff going on.”

A small memorial now marks the spot where the shooting happened.

Community leaders are calling for peace after the violence. Bis
