DETROIT — The Detroit Lions came out flat from their bye week, suffering a 27-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday at Ford Field in what could figure to be a critical home defeat in NFC North play.
The Lions (5-3) racked up 10 penalties in the game and struggled to be consistent on third down, finishing 5-of-17 for the game. Quarterback Jared Goff had his second-lowest completion rate of the season at 67.6%, while running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery finished with 65 combined rushing yards on 20 carries.
The Vikings (4-4) didn’t play a perfect game, but managed to get off to a hot start behind returning quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who played a part in all three of the team’s touchdowns.
The former Michigan quarterback sunk the Lions, ending a five-game winning streak D
