A Calgary senior has died after she was struck while walking in a marked crosswalk downtown Saturday afternoon.
Calgary police said the 87-year-old woman was crossing 9th Avenue S.E. at about 2:30 p.m. when she was hit by an SUV travelling southbound on 1st Street.
The driver, a man in his 60s, was turning left onto 9th Avenue when he hit the woman, police said. The victim was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition but later succumbed to her injuries.

The driver was not injured and remained on scene. Speed and impairment are not considered to be factors in the collision, said police.
