GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Amid the uncertainty surrounding benefits from the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) during the government shutdown, local communities are stepping up to ensure families can put food on the table.
The Fulton Street Market in Grand Rapids has opened up a new dry goods pantry that will be open every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The pantry is a community-based program and the market is always looking for donations.
"We're very concerned about what the next month is going to bring for our community," said Fulton Street Market Executive Director Dana Eardley. "We see very high rates of SNAP customers and Double Up Food Bucks customers here at Fulton Street, and we really want to make sure that we're promoting as much food security as possibl
