A woman near Heidelberg posted on Facebook that she spotted one of the escaped monkeys from the crash in her backyard.
She shot the monkey twice to protect herself and her children.
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office said that a homeowner along Highway 503 discovered one of the monkeys that escaped after the crash.
Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks responded to the property this Sunday morning and “took custody of the animal”, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office said they were not given details on the monkey’s condition, how it was captured, or the status of the other escaped animals.
