NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) -- A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon, according to Nashville authorities.

The Metro Nashville Police Department said the collision occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2 at the intersection of 4th Avenue South and Rains Avenue.

Law enforcement said the preliminary investigation shows a 2015 Nissan Altima was traveling southbound on 4th Avenue South when it went off the road and hit a telephone pole. Before the crash, the driver had reportedly been weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed.

The driver -- identified by officials as 35-year-old Jared Sherrell of Nashville -- died at the scene of the collision.

Authorities said there was no evidence of impairment at the scene.
