Man killed in Wayne County crash after truck crashes into tree

WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Troopers say a man in Wayne County is dead after he drove his truck into a tree and died on impact.

Trooper Rogers with Highway Patrol Troop C told WITN tonight that just after midnight this morning, the wreck happened on Stevens Mill Road between Mill Creek Road and Dobbersville Road in Wayne County.

Wayne County Public Affairs Director, Joel Gillie said today that Grantham Volunteer Fire and Wayne County EMS responded. Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded later only for traffic control.

Trooper Rogers says when firefighters arrived to the scene, they found a truck on fire. After extinguishing the fire, they found the driver dead at the wheel.

Trooper Rogers said Highway Patrol is not ready to identify the man as of yet.
