Calls reporting violent crimes — particularly assault — are up in Santa Fe, while calls for property crimes are down, according to the latest crime statistics from the Santa Fe Police Department.

It’s a trend that’s been holding steady for much of this year, although it comes after previous years saw increases in calls for most types of offenses.

Metrics from Santa Fe police through September show officers have responded to 1,762 reports of assault so far this year, an increase of 31% over the previous year and higher than the numbers of total assault reports in previous years. Reports of homicide, arson, robbery and sex offenses are up so far this year as well, while calls for burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft have decreased.
