Ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, the liquor ban has become a major political issue. Madhya Pradesh Minister Dharmendra Lodhi has questioned Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s much publicised liquor ban policy, claiming that despite the ban alcohol is easily available in Bihar. He said, “In Bihar, if you just make a phone call, liquor is delivered straight to your house.”

The minister made these remarks during a Facebook Live session, where he was responding to allegations linking him to liquor mafias in his constituency. While defending himself, he mentioned Bihar’s example to question the effectiveness of the liquor ban there. His statement quickly triggered political reactions, as it indirectly criticized an ally government.
