A traffic dispute between strangers ended in a near-naked young man being fatally struck by a car in an act of either murder or self-defence, a jury has heard.

Umar Hussein Alkhalifa Al Enizi, 24, on Monday pleaded not guilty to the murder of Troy Edward Vandenberg at Browns Plains, south of Brisbane, on September 17, 2021.

The 25-year-old Vandenberg and Al Enizi were strangers, a Queensland Supreme Court jury heard.

It was not in dispute that Vandenberg died metres from his own home due to injuries caused when Al Enizi drove into him with an Audi vehicle, crown prosecutor Samantha O’Rourke told the jury.

“This trial is about why Mr Vandenberg was struck by the defendant with that car: that is the dispute,”
