The Media Institute for Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi Chapter has urged the Malawi Police Service to take decisive action against crimes targeting journalists, including those involving powerful political figures.

Marking the 2025 International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists (IDEI), MISA Malawi Chairperson Golden Matonga criticized law enforcement for failing to investigate and prosecute several reported cases.

He cited threats made against journalists Gregory Gondwe and Cathy Maulidi, as well as violent incidents at recent political party conventions.

Matonga stressed that justice must be applied equally, without fear or favor, regardless of a perpetrator’s political or social standing.
