Nigel Farage has been accused of planning to take the UK “back to austerity” as he plans to perform a major policy U-turn.
The Reform leader will officially ditch his party’s previous pledge to slash taxes while increasing public spending , made before last year’s general election.
Instead, Farage will vow to “get public spending under control” in an attempt to boost the economy.
Reform’s election manifesto included plans to boost public spending by £141 billion a year while at the same time cutting taxes by £70 billion.
But in a speech in the City of London on Monday, Farage will perform a complete 180 degree shift in his position by insisting government spending must come down before taxes can be cut.
