Mithali Raj has lived through the heartbreak of getting so close yet so far from winning a world cup. The batting legend was the captain when India reached the final of the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup before finishing as the runners-up.

It was the second time that India would lose in a one-day world cup final after 2005.

On Sunday, she witnessed her long-cherished dream come to fruition as Harmanpreet Kaur-led India ended the country’s long wait for a maiden ICC title in women’s cricket.

Taking to social media, Mithali bared her emotions with a heartfelt note celebrating the team’s historic triumph.

“Champions of the World, I’ve seen this dream for over two decades, to watch the Indian women lift that World Cup trophy. Tonight, that dream finally came true," Mithali posted.
