Police have arrested Bruno Munlo Makina, aged 37, believed to be the ringleader of the violent “zikwanje” gang that has been terrorizing protestors in Lilongwe and other districts.

According to Deputy National Police Spokesperson Superintendent Alfred Chimthere, Makina, from Mponda Village, Traditional Authority Msamala in Balaka, was arrested following ongoing investigations into a spate of violent attacks, robberies, and property destruction.

Chimthere said police have also detained Erick Phakamisa (40) of Undi Village, T/A Kaphuka in Dedza, and Hanif Banda (23) of Wimbe Village, T/A Wimbe in Kasungu, who are suspected to be part of the same criminal network.
