They call it a marathon for the runners, but at The New York City Marathon, the cheering is a sport too.

Before most of the city was awake, Bay Ridge was already on its feet.

“It’s an amazing feeling. I know what it feels like to be on there. So when you hear someone’s name for you, it’s just amazing,” Bay Ridge resident Christian Schou said.

Kids came armed with signs and encouragement, the kind that sticks with runners for miles.

“Go runners. Go. I know you can do it,” Bay Ridge resident Bodhi Plunkett said.

“It’s important to give them motivation so they run faster,” Quint Plunkett said.

Six-year-old Sophia let mom take the lead, chiming in when it counted.

“Is Bay Ridge not the best, that we always get the best runners when they come through?” Amanda Hayde said.
