Mirra Andreeva has clarified that she chose not to compete in a recent WTA tournament in Tokyo, amid rumours of visa issues.
The teenager had been due to compete at the Pan Pacific Open in Japan, but ultimately withdrew at the final hour - a decision which ultimately cost her a place in the WTA Finals.
Heading into the competition, Andreeva was sitting at No.8 in world rankings - the final place spot for the season-ending Finals.
Just behind the Russian starlet prior to the Tokyo event was Elena Rybakina at No.9, but she was soon handed a boost in her qualification bid.
Both players entered the tournament to gain some extra ranking points, only for Andreeva to suddenly withdraw two days before.
