A 19-year-old man was arrested Sunday for allegedly attempting to ram a family with his car outside their residence in Gardere. Police say he hit a 3-year-old girl, causing her to lose her left leg.
Jose Soza, 19, of Baton Rouge, was booked in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on four counts of attempted first-degree murder, and one count each of hit-and-run and aggravated criminal damage to property.
According to Soza's arrest records, East Baton Rouge Sheriff's deputies were called to a residence on GSRI Avenue in Baton Rouge shortly after 11:30 p.m. Saturday. There, they found the girl suffering from life-threatening injuries, including an amputated left leg. Records say she was transported to a hospital and rushed into surgery to treat the leg and partially removed intestines.
