The Grade 11 runner from St. Patrick’s won silver in the senior boys division at the OFSAA cross-country championship Saturday in Brampton. Article content Article content
“I kind of surprised myself,” he said. “I was going for top six, but I didn’t think I was going to place so high up.”
Capes completed the six-kilometre course in 18:31.77. He was just over six seconds behind Milton’s Brody Clark (18:25.57), who owns the Canadian U18 record for 3,000 metres.
Capes was a bit worried for the race after walking through the Heart Lake Conservation Area the day before.
“It was super muddy and everyone was slipping and falling down the course,” he said, “but they seemed to put down some mulch or white sand.
