An 81-year-old man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Oshawa, said police.

Officers were called to a collision at Simcoe Street South and Mill Street in Oshawa around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, said Durham Regional Police Service in a news release Monday.

Police said the 81-year-old pedestrian was hit within a crosswalk by an SUV travelling through on a green light.

The man was taken to a Toronto trauma centre with life-threatening injuries, but his condition has since stabilized, said police.

The 53-year-old driver of the SUV remained at the scene.
