GADAG: The sweets supplied to bakeries in the twin cities of Gadag-Betageri are being prepared at a premises in an unhygienic environment, using expired and hazardous materials, a sting operation conducted by Public TV has revealed.
The investigation revealed that the sweets are being prepared using low-quality ingredients, including expired Dalda (vegetable fat) and chemical-laced colours. These sweets can cause serious health issues, including cancer, blood pressure, diabetes and heart attacks.
The sweets being prepared include Barfi, Kavapeda, Horlicks peda, Mothichoor laddu, Dharwad peda, Badusha, Doodh peda, Jamun, Jalebi, Jahangir, Besan laddu, and more. The use of expired and hazardous materials in these sweets is alarming, and pose a health risk to consumers.
