DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) - Decatur High School announced that it's under "heightened alert" after an 11th-grade student's backpack set off an OpenGate weapons detector.
School officials said a "weapons component" was found inside the backpack.

The student then grabbed the backpack and ran away.
Officials said there is no threat to any person or the school, and that the situaiton is isolated to the student.
Decatur Middle School is on secure peremiter due to its proximity to the high school and a shared parking area.
