DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Durham Police Department is set to host several town halls this month about the department's real-time crime center.

It's a centralized police unit that uses technology to provide officers with up-to-the-minute information to respond quickly to incidents.

"What Peregrine does is bring together data that already exists within the police department, such as from the 911 system, the records management system, evidence systems ... brings those into one place and fuses that data together to make it useful to solve some of the hard problems that police have to solve every day," Tim Shriver said.

It's too early to tell exactly how the project will develop, but it comes as some people tell ABC11 News they're concerned about crime in the city.
