A 77-year-old woman was killed and a 79-year-old man was hurt when a large tree fell on the pickup truck in which they were traveling.
The Ulster County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened at approximately 12:45 p.m. Oct. 31 on Route 44/55 in the Town of Gardiner.
The sheriff's office said deputies who responded to the scene found the vehicle, a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, in the middle of the highway. A large tree had fallen and crushed the cab of the vehicle.
A preliminary investigation determined the pickup truck had been traveling east on Route 44/55 when the tree fell.
The passenger, a 77-year-old Gardiner woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 79-year-old Gardiner man, was treated at the scene by emergency medical service workers and then taken to Mid-H
