McDonald’s customers may expect a slightly larger bill after the chain announced some locations may no longer be able to provide exact change following the discontinuation of pennies nationwide.
The issue stems from a February announcement by President Donald Trump, who ordered his administration to cease production of the 1-cent coin.
In May, the Treasury Department confirmed that the U.S. Mint made its final order of penny blanks and plans to stop production, citing an immediate annual savings of $56 million in reduced material costs.
McDonald’s emphasized that this is a nationwide issue affecting all retailers across the country.
