A Halloween display that depicted the hanging of local politicians outside a southern Manitoba home — prompting an RCMP investigation — was removed by the property owner Sunday.

Rural Municipality of Taché Mayor Armand Poirier said he believes public, government and legal pressure played a part in the display being taken down.

“Definitely, it’s a relief to know it came down,” he said Monday.

Taché’s council met Saturday to discuss the display and its response. Further comment is expected in a news release Monday afternoon.

The display had five life-sized figures hanging from a gallows on a property in the community of Ste-Geneviève, about 40 kilometres southwest of Winnipeg.
