The rail network needs major security changes to avoid a “public safety crisis” following the mass stabbing attack on a train near Cambridge , The i Paper has been told.

A funding boost for the British Transport Police (BTP) is needed so the force can permanently increase the number of officers riding on trains , according to security experts and rail unions.

The Government may also need to consider airport-style scanners at stations and bleed control kits on carriages, after it emerged that most trains do not have the live-saving equipment. New Feature
