BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- Thousands went to the Greater Baton Rouge State Fair this year, despite the first weekend closure due to rain.
State fair officials said almost 36,000 paid visitors attended the 11-day fall event. The attendance number does not include children under four feet tall, who enter the fair for free.
“We were grateful for the many fair visitors who came out to enjoy all we had to offer. We had beautiful weather this past weekend and brisk attendance, as a result,” said GBR State Fair President Cliff Barton.
The Baton Rouge State Fair Foundation has raised almost $5 million since 1987. Fifty-one high school seniors were honored for their volunteer work and awarded $500 scholarships, and $110,000 in Worthy Cause Grants were awarded to charities and programs
