The Massachusetts Appeals Court today ordered a new trial for a Black man who pleaded guilty to three gun-related charges in 2018, because his white public defender at the time turned out to have a deep hatred of Blacks, details of which he readily shared on his public Facebook page, if not with his clients.
Ronald Badgett has already completed his five-year sentence in state prison - with credit for the 207 days he'd spent locked up before his sentencing.
Badgett was arrested at the Lenox Street housing development on Feb. 24, 2017. According to a Boston Police account:
