COLDWATER, MI — A 65-year-old Coldwater man was detained and facing deportation after police said his vehicle drove onto a utility pole wire shortly after 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 2.
Firefighters stabilized the SUV with poles in front and wooden blocks at the rear before removing the driver.
Police investigated whether a medical issue contributed to the crash east of Grand Street.
Police said the driver was eastbound when the vehicle ran up the steel cable. The driver was not injured.
Police said the driver did not have an operator's license and was transported to the Branch County Jail.
The Branch County Sheriff's policy is to notify the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement of all arrests.
ICE determined he was undocumented and requested a detainer after the Branch Count
